Our board is made up of volunteers from military, business, government, civic, and cultural backgrounds. Together we work to honor a legacy and unite the city of Richmond by sharing the stories of its bravest citizens.
Officers and Staff
President
A former logistics officer in the Army with service in the 75th Ranger Regiment and 7th Special Forces Group, Ian founded Monumental Honor in 2023. He graduated from University of Virginia Darden School of Business in 2026. He currently works for Evergreen Services Group supporting small businesses.
Project Manager
Lee is a project manager with more than forty years in sales, marketing, and executive leadership. Before retiring she was executive assistant to the president of Software AG. She holds a degree from Catawba College and has worked closely with the USO and other veteran service organizations throughout her career.
Secretary
Carl is a retired lieutenant colonel who has worked as a defense contractor in the Richmond area since 2012. He retired from the Army after twenty-three years of command and staff positions, culminating in a twelve-month tour as senior adviser to the Iraqi Army. He also taught politics at West Point and served as a congressional liaison.
Public Relations Director
Michael proudly serves as a Spokesperson for the City of Richmond, where he works with the administration and staff to communicate with the City's more than 230,000 residents. A Virginia native and proud Richmonder, Michael has had the great distinction of serving in several roles across the Foreign Service and Intelligence Community for more than a decade. He lives in the City with his wife and two children.
Treasurer
Max is a former Army officer who served in Germany and Richmond. He holds a degree in political science from McGill University and a master's in management from the University of Maryland, and is pursuing an MBA at New York University. He plays board games, watches soccer, and travels the world with his wife, Summer.
Creative Director
Brandon is the founder of GuildeHall, an organization devoted to serving and strengthening American civil society. In previous roles he’s worked in marketing, graphic design, project management, and publishing, including an editorial role at MHQ—The Quarterly Journal of Military History. He lives in Henrico with his wife and young son.
Vice President
Born in Dallas, Eric is an active-duty U.S. Army logistics officer and a graduate of Texas Tech University, currently earning a master's in supply chain management. He has served in Alaska, in Germany, and with the 75th Ranger Regiment.
Communications Coordinator
Morgan works in communications and media, with a passion for storytelling, photography, and video. Growing up in a military family gave her the opportunity to live in different places and travel from a young age. Outside of work, Morgan enjoys exploring new places, spending time outdoors, taking photos, and playing soccer.
Advisors
Advisor, STEAM Initiatives
Jerryl is a career public servant with more than thirty-six years of federal service. After serving as a field artillery officer in the Army, he began his HUD career in Richmond as a community builder. He now works to reduce the cost of living for students and residents in public housing. He is a lifetime member of the National Black MBA Association and the West Point Society of Richmond.
Advisor, Logistics
Cal is a U.S. Army officer stationed at Fort Gregg-Adams. After twenty-six years in the Ohio Air National Guard he transitioned to the Army, and now works as a logistics officer for the Combined Arms Support Command. He holds a master of science from Eastern Michigan University, and has worked in business analytics, IT, and quality assurance.
Advisor, Academic Programs
Russell is a retired teacher from Thomas Jefferson High School, Jimmie Monteith's alma mater. A lifelong Richmonder, he spent more than fifty-five years educating students in the area. Richmond Public Schools named him a Living Legacy in 2015, and he entered the Thomas Jefferson athletic hall of fame in 2017. He has also been named co-teacher of the year and chaired the social studies department.
Advisor, Government Relations
Julian is a Virginia State University graduate and a Henrico resident. A former banker and real estate investor, he has led a long career in affordable housing. HUD hired him in 2015 to revitalize the Gary Housing Authority, and he has served as director of the Petersburg Redevelopment and Housing Authority. He oversees our outreach to local government.
Ex Officio
Executive Director, Congressional Medal of Honor Society
Chad is the executive director of the Congressional Medal of Honor Society. He was previously president and CEO of the Woody Williams Foundation, founded by his grandfather, Medal of Honor recipient Hershel "Woody" Williams. He holds a bachelor's degree and a master's in business communication with a specialization in nonprofit administration from Spalding University.

Former CEO, National Medal of Honor Museum
General, U.S. Army (retired)
Richard is a retired four-star general who served as the twelfth commander of U.S. Special Operations Command from March 2019 to August 2022. He was previously director for strategic plans and policy at the Pentagon, and held leadership positions in the 82nd Airborne Division and the 75th Ranger Regiment.
Veteran advocate and former prisoner of war
Paul is a retired Navy aviator. Shot down over Vietnam, he spent seven years as a prisoner of war, then returned to serve as commander of naval recruiting in Richmond. He later served as commissioner of the Virginia Department of Veterans Services. The Galanti Education Center at the Virginia War Memorial is named for him.
President and CEO, National Medal of Honor Leadership and Education Center
Tom served in the Air Force before taking senior executive positions in development and philanthropy, including Cape Cod Healthcare Foundation, Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital, Shore Medical Center, Hawaii Pacific Health, and Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.
Founder, Vietnam Veterans Memorial
Jan is an Army veteran who founded the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, and served as president of its foundation until he retired. He received the Samuel S. Beard Award for greatest public service by an individual under thirty-five, and wrote a memoir, To Heal a Nation.
